Early Risers Skills for Success
“Early Risers” works to prevent and reduce substance use and abuse among high risk children and adolescents. Counselors work with students, who are enrolled in alternative middle and high schools, because of problems, related to poor academic performance, truancy, discipline problems and negative attitudes. These students are at a higher risk for substance abuse. The counselors work with these adolescents, (individually and in groups), conduct prevention education, train alternative school staff, coordinate substance abuse services, policies of the school, refer and follow-up with students and families needing substance abuse treatment.
Children Are People Too!
"Children Are People Too" is an eight-week educational support group for children of families with substance abuse issues (ages 5-12). Each week a new topic is presented in a fun and comfortable environment that encourages children to share their feelings, ask questions and participate in group activities. Children living with substance abuse in the home, need to have their experiences validated. They need safe, reliable adults in whom to confide, adults who will support them, reassure them and provide them with information and help appropriate for their age. It is important to talk honestly with children about what is happening in the family and help them to express their concerns and feelings in a more positive way, but most of all they NEED to have fun and just be kids. Take a look to our brochure or fill the Referral Form and one of our Prevention specialist will contact you.
